🌾 Boardman Chamber Talk w/ Torrie 🌾
Featuring: Erin Hansell-Heideman, President of the Oregon Wheat Growers League, and Jake Lindsay, Morrow County President
Join us for a conversation about Oregon’s most important crop—wheat!
The Oregon Wheat Growers League (OWGL), founded in 1926, is the oldest not-for-profit grower trade association in the U.S. wheat industry. Its mission is to advocate for Oregon wheat and barley producers at both the state and federal levels. About 90% of Oregon wheat is exported, making it the #1 export of the Port of Portland. Most of it travels by Columbia River barges—each carrying up to 125,000 bushels of wheat, enough for 2.5 million loaves of bread—using the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation available.
What we’ll cover in this Talk:
Wheat production in Morrow County
Background of the League as it approaches its 100th Anniversary in 2026
The structure of Oregon Wheat: League, Commission, and Foundation
OWGL’s role in shaping policy that supports farmers locally and statewide
A joint discussion with Erin and Jake on 2025 crop conditions
Quick takes on gluten, GMOs, and glyphosate (Roundup)
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how wheat impacts our county, state, and beyond! You will have the opportunity to ask questions in the comments after the Facebook Live.
