Position Overview:

The Program Specialist acts as the primary contact and resource for students and staff in the Nursing, Emergency Medical Services (EMS)/Fire Science (FS), and Medical Assisting (MA) programs. This role involves coordinating equipment use for demonstrations and labs, maintaining lab safety, and managing student and college records. The Specialist ensures compliance with BMCC’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reception Duties: Greet and assist students and staff for Nursing, EMS/FS, and MA programs via phone, email, or in person. Address or redirect inquiries and issues as needed.
  • Student and Faculty Support: Aid with advising, coordination, and program-related tasks. Assist faculty in EMS/FS, Nursing, and Allied Health pathways.
  • Marketing and Recruitment: Update program information for marketing materials and the BMCC website.
  • Lab Coordination: Set up and clean up lab materials and equipment. Monitor inventory and reorder supplies as needed.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Perform regular safety checks and maintain equipment. Manage chemical and biological materials safely.
  • Documentation: Compile and manage various reports and confidential documents. Prepare materials for committee meetings and maintain accurate records.
  • Budget and Purchasing: Assist with budget tracking and purchasing for the Nursing, EMS/FS, and MA programs. Process purchase orders and travel requests.
  • Administrative Support: Handle general office tasks, provide information about college policies, and assist with administrative duties as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned, and occasionally work extra hours or travel to other BMCC centers.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Three years of relevant experience in a complex organization.
    • Direct experience in EMS/FS or medical fields.
  • Preferred:
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in safety protocols for chemical and biological materials.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong collaboration and independent work skills.
  • Excellent customer service and office technology proficiency.
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and strong organizational skills.
  • High level of confidentiality and willingness to learn new skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly Rate: $19.27 - $20.03 (dependent on experience)
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, vacation, and tuition waiver for employee and dependents.
